JST Performance Time Attack Civic Type R 2019 Mid Year Improvements/Power Gain Update

Holy cow, have we made massive improvements to our shop Civic Type R since our previous blog post! Most of our improvements to the CTR since the beginning of this year have involved handling and on track performance gains. We have introduced Fortune Auto as a partner and have been rocking their 510 series coilovers, which have provided greater stability and handling capability while on track as well as a pretty comfortable ride on the street. We have also welcomed RV6Performance and United Speed Racing as partners. We are using the RV6P spherical bushings, which we feel have improved the steering feel and handling of the CTR even more on track. And USR provided us with their catless DP, turbo heat blanket, and pretty handy roll bar for our harnesses. We saw a ton of driver movement while cornering on track, so we threw in an OMP racing seat and harnesses, which surprisingly have also helped improve our lap times!

The CTR is still an absolute blast to drive on track, and we are breaking records and/or making podium finishes at many of the time attack events that we attend in her! She is turning very impressive lap times for the minimal(ish) amount of modifications that have been done to her. We custom fabricated a heat extracting hood, but unfortunately she is still suffering from overheating while on track (it doesn't help that we are located in the deep south, where high humidity also plays a role in making cars run hot) Hopefully we can find a solution to this soon as we have many more plans for the car that include bumping up the power even more!

Speaking of bumping up the power, our last blog post had this car at 363/376 with our custom tune, PRL intercooler, and Invidia exhaust via Ktuner. Since then, we have switched over the Hondata and added the USR catless DP, and switched to an HKS exhauste. We re-dyno tuned the car and picked up a few HP, ending up at 365whp/385wtq with a very usable power band! We would love to throw on our SiriMoto Flex Fuel Kit, but unfortunately we ran out of fueling and have decided that for now the gains wouldn't be worth installing the kit. It is also worth noting that this car weighs in at 2995 pounds, which is a fairly impressive weight for the car to still be a full interior car! We will be heading to NJMP with GTA, RA with Gridlife, and NCM with SCCA TT in the next few months to round out the 2019 racing year with the JST CTR and who knows what improvements she will get during the off season?! Stay tuned as we continue to modify and work to improve the FK8 platform from a tuner's standpoint!
